One big problem for individual filmmakers is that they can struggle with distributing their films, this is something well-recognized studios like Marvel Studios have very few issues with as they have their own distribution companies. 

Probably the two main ways to distribute a film as an individual filmmaker are through film festivals and by organizing a distributing deal. 

Film festivals- This can be seen as the easiest way for a film to be put up on a big stage. If u can get ur film selected to be played it is a cheap and easy way for a film to be shown to a large crowd and to gain recognition from potential distribution companies. You can find them by searching on sites such as film Free way which have events going on all year round at different locations. 

Distributing deals- One of the major problems that independent filmmakers face is that most big studios (Marvel and Dc) have their own distribution companies so they are guaranteed a distribution deal. Individual filmmakers, they need to convince these companies that their work is worth being put out there on the behalf of their name. Some distributors allow filmmakers to directly contact them to try to set up a deal whereas others will be at film festivals looking for new talent. A company i would recommend is Bayview Entertainment.

Another way to distribute a film is by selling directly to a streaming platform such as Netflix, Youtube movies, Disney plus, Hulu, Apple Tv. This may be difficult as these streaming platforms are very famous so it is much harder to get your movie up on the sight.On the other hand an advantage is that because a platform like Netflix is so popular your audience would be very large. If you can pitch your movie to Netflix they may want to purchase rights to your movie as well to gain money if that was the intentions of the filmmaker.

If I were to distribute my film to a large audience I would most likely use social media. Some people now add a short but suspenseful clip to a tik tok account, on tik tok it is free and it a very easy now to get a lot of views as there is a large number of viewers on tik tok. So I would upload a short snippet of my film so viewers would end up wanting more of the film and then would add a link to a Youtube page that many people have access to. Uploading to social media is a great way to get a lot of recognition and fame for free and you can also monetize it as well. Social Media is a great way to get a lot of traction from all ages mostly, as it is used by everyone now.
